The development of communication and telecommunication technology and e-government in Propinsi Kalimantan Timur (East Kalimantan Province) is under the authority of Badan Promosi dan Investasi Daerah (BPID) and not under the special institution in charge of ICT. In 2007, they planned to build a new institution that will handle the communication and information to strengthen the management of e-government in East Kalimantan Province.

The existence of human resource which is in charge of ICT in that place has been sufficient seen from the quantity point of view. However, sufficient training and education of e-government are still necessary to improve the level of ICT human resource. The government of East Kalimantan Province has training and educational facility for human resource, even though the training and education for ICT is stills less.

The e-government infrastructure condition in East Kalimantan Province has been well developed and complete, of both computer and network infrastructure and other supporting equipments. Nowadays, the government of East Kalimantan Province has done the audit on developing e-government existing there, which will later be arranged a master plan in developing this e-government.

The ICT infrastructure condition in East Kalimantan Province is one of the best conditions in Indonesia. By using high-speed internet connection 1 Mbps in 2006 and will be added to become 4 Mbps in 2007, including the networks that have been connected to almost all offices and institutions supported by high quality hardware. In consequence, the readiness to support the developing e-government is sufficient.

Currently, East Kalimantan Province Government has some e-government applications that are used in every working unit, and the managements also done by the involved working units.
